  A private wine day trip from Tbilisi to Kakheti, Georgia's main wine region, 1.5–2 hours east. You visit Bodbe convent, walk the 18th-century walls of Sighnaghi above the Alazani Valley, and taste at two very different places: the Tsinandali estate, whose 1830s winery and enoteca hold bottles back to 1814, and a small family qvevri cellar. Kakheti is where clay-qvevri winemaking, on UNESCO's intangible heritage list since 2013, is strongest today, and the family cellar shows how it works. Both tastings are included; lunch is not, but your guide can book a table with a valley view in Sighnaghi. You come back over the forested Gombori pass. Just the two of you, a private car and an English-speaking driver-guide. Day one is Old Tbilisi, the cable car to Narikala and an hour in a private bath room in Abanotubani. Day two follows the Military Highway past Jvari Monastery, Svetitskhoveli and Ananuri to Stepantsminda. Day three is the long one, about 5–5.5 hours of driving, from the mountains down to the Kakheti wine country. The last morning is slow, with Bodbe convent before your flight. Three boutique hotel nights, breakfasts, the bath, the tasting and one dinner are included.
