Overview

A private walking tour of old Tbilisi with an experienced local guide: the cable car up to Narikala fortress and the Mother of Georgia statue, the domed sulphur baths of Abanotubani, Sioni Cathedral and Anchiskhati, the city's oldest surviving church (6th century). About 5 hours and 5–6 km on foot. You start at 13th-century Metekhi Church above the Mtkvari, ride up from Rike Park, then walk down past the Leghvtakhevi waterfall into the bath district. After Sioni and Anchiskhati come the Gabriadze clock tower, a coffee stop, the balconied lanes around Shardeni Street and the Bridge of Peace, and you finish on Rustaveli Avenue. It works well on your first day, to learn the layout of the city. Some streets are steep cobbles.

      Tbilisi, Georgia's capital, spreads along the Mtkvari river gorge between Narikala fortress and the Mtatsminda ridge. It is where most trips begin and end, and it deserves 2–3 days of its own. Walk the Old Town from the domed sulphur baths of Abanotubani up to Narikala, cross the Bridge of Peace, spend a morning with the gold of the Georgian National Museum and eat your way through the city's wine bars and khinkali houses. Physical Requirements
Suitable for most fitness levels. Involves some walking on mostly flat terrain with minimal elevation changes.

Walking
5–6 km with some steep, slippery cobbles and steps; the cable car saves the climb to Narikala. Wear flat shoes with grip.
Dress code
shoulders and knees covered in Metekhi, Sioni and Anchiskhati; women cover their hair (wraps are usually available at the door).
Sulphur baths
if you want a private bath room after the walk, tell us when you book and we reserve one.
Kids
fine for school-age children; a pushchair is hard work on the Old Town cobbles and steps.
Summer
