Overview

A private evening supra, the traditional Georgian feast, at a family house or wine cellar near Tbilisi or Mtskheta. A tamada (toastmaster) leads the table, and a group of three or four local singers performs Georgian polyphonic song, recognised by UNESCO since 2001, between the toasts. Dinner and house wine are included. This is a family table, not a restaurant show. Your guide translates and explains the toasts as they come: to peace, to parents, to those who are gone, to friends. The food follows the season, with dishes such as khachapuri, pkhali, grilled meat and fresh bread. About 4 hours, with pickup and drop-off at your Tbilisi hotel. It works well as the last evening of a longer trip, or as a first evening to understand how Georgians eat and celebrate.

      Tbilisi, Georgia's capital, spreads along the Mtkvari river gorge between Narikala fortress and the Mtatsminda ridge. It is where most trips begin and end, and it deserves 2–3 days of its own. Walk the Old Town from the domed sulphur baths of Abanotubani up to Narikala, cross the Bridge of Peace, spend a morning with the gold of the Georgian National Museum and eat your way through the city's wine bars and khinkali houses.
